Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to join Biden for COVID-19 vaccine concert

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will join President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden in a concert event aimed at promoting vaccine efforts against the coronavirus around the world.

The broadcast, dubbed Vax Live, is set to premiere on May 8. It will feature several musical artists who will perform and call on world leaders to advance vaccination efforts and encourage donations to be made to Covax, an initiative with a goal to expand vaccine access across the globe.

Harry and Markle are listed as “campaign chairs” of the event, which will be hosted by singer and actress Selena Gomez.

“We must pursue equitable vaccine distribution and, in that, restore faith in our common humanity. The mission couldn’t be more critical or important,” the couple said in a statement, according to the Guardian.

The Bidens and Vice President Kamala Harris are set to appear during the broadcast. French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic are also expected to make appearances.

Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Vedder, and the Foo Fighters are scheduled to perform, while Ben Affleck, Chrissy Teigen, and Jimmy Kimmel will make appearances.

The event will be pre-taped at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, and an extended version of the concert will be available on YouTube.
