Former personal lawyer to President Trump Michael Cohen will be released from prison amid the coronavirus.
Cohen, 53, will be released from a federal prison in Otisville, New York, on furlough Thursday and is expected to serve the remainder of his three-year sentence at home, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.
Cohen is the latest high-profile prisoner released from a facility amid the coronavirus pandemic as officials are attempting to ascertain who is most at risk for infection of COVID-19 while also low-risk for repeating criminal acts.
Trump’s former lawyer only served approximately one year of his prison sentence but reportedly qualifies for home confinement because of good conduct credit, moving up his release date to Nov. 22, 2021.
In August 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to eight criminal charges, including bank fraud, tax fraud, and campaign finance violations related to facilitating hush money payments to two women who alleged romantic affairs with Trump.
