DNC staffer fatally shot in D.C.

A Democratic National Committee staffer was fatally shot in Northwest Washington, D.C. over the weekend.

Seth Rich, 27, was the Democrats’ director of voter expansion data. Early Sunday morning, he was shot multiple times in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of the nation’s capital. Police officers soon arrived upon the scene, but Rich died shortly after at a local hospital.

Police reportedly do not have any witnesses and are searching for surveillance footage of the incident.

“Our hearts are broken with the loss of one of our DNC family members over the weekend,” DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said in a statement. “Seth Rich was a dedicated, selfless public servant who worked tirelessly to protect the most sacred right we share as Americans — the right to vote. He saw the great potential of our nation and believed that, together, we can make the world a better place.”
