Texas man arrested after allegedly threatening to ‘assassinate’ AOC and kill officer who shot protester

A criminal complaint filed in D.C. court alleges a pro-Trump protester who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 threatened to “assassinate” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Garret Miller, 34, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with knowingly entering a restricted building, violent entry, and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, among other things.

Miller, a Richardson, Texas, native, streamed a video on social media of the Capitol Hill breach, which took place the day Congress was expected to count the votes of the Electoral College and certify President Biden’s victory. Five people died during the protests, including Ashli Babbitt, a Trump supporter and QAnon conspiracy theorist.

Miller repeatedly referenced Babbitt’s death in his social media posts, at one point threatening to “get a hold of” the officer who shot her “and hug his neck with a nice rope,” calling it “justice … not murder.” He later said the officer was “not going to survive long” and “deserve[d] to die … so its huntin season.”

“In examining MILLER’s Facebook account, there are many posts relating to his involvement in criminal activities at the Capitol,” the filing said. “After MILLER posted [a selfie] showing him inside the U.S. Capitol building, an individual on Facebook commented, ‘bro you got in?! Nice!,’ to which MILLER replied, ‘just wanted to incriminate myself a little lol.’”

After the attack on the Capitol was subdued, Miller continued to post about the incident on social media, replying “next time we bring guns” to one tweet.

Miller also replied to a tweet from Ocasio-Cortez in which she wrote, “Impeach,” referring to the second impeachment of former President Donald Trump.

“We acted with honor and we where not armed. We where gentle with the police. They murdered a child,” Garret replied. “Assassinate AOC.”

Garret later wrote on Facebook that he was “happy to make death threats so I been just off the rails tonight lol.”
