Donald Trump’s son Eric suggested Thursday that Americans should be required to watch the film “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” before casting their ballots this November.
“I see that little clip, and I literally cringe,” Trump said of the latest Michael Bay film, which focuses on the six-member security team that fought to defend the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya when it came under attack on Sept. 11, 2012.
Hillary Clinton’s name is never mentioned in the film, but her critics have used it to attack her character in the court of public opinion. Trump suggested the film is a testament to Clinton’s record on foreign policy.
“Her foreign policy has literally cost this country trillions of dollars, thousands of lives,” he said Thursday on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.”
The son of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee said he and his wife first watched the film over Memorial Day weekend and that it made him “livid.”
“I think in order to vote in this next election, you should have to watch that movie,” he said, adding of Clinton, “She left these guys on a rooftop in the middle of Benghazi getting shot at, having mortars drop on their head because she wouldn’t pick up a phone call in the middle of the night.”
Trump also went after Clinton’s recent criticism of his father, describing the former secretary of state’s attacks as “honestly, truly, truly disgusting” and claiming she has “done a total disservice for the country.”
“Her policy is totally disastrous,” he said. “My father would be an amazing, amazing commander in chief.”
Clinton, who is more likely than not to be Donald Trump’s opponent in the general election, will deliver a speech at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, during which she is expected to critique Trump’s own foreign policy outlook.
