NEW BADEN, Texas (AP) — An oilfield worker has suffered burns in a storage tank explosion at a Central Texas site.
The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office says the blast happened around midday Wednesday near New Baden (BAY’-dun), about 100 miles northeast of Austin. The victim was flown to a Houston hospital. His name hasn’t been released.
Sheriff’s officials on Thursday did not immediately respond to a message to provide additional information on the worker.
Deputy Steve Misterek (mis-TER’-ek) earlier said the victim was atop the tank when the explosion happened. No cause has been determined for the explosion and fire that sent black smoke and flames swirling in a fiery image visible for several miles.
Firefighters put out the blaze by late Wednesday afternoon.
New Baden is 100 miles northeast of Austin.
