Md. slots parlor to open ahead of schedule

Maryland’s first slots parlor is set to open in Cecil County Sept. 30, weeks ahead of the original opening date.

The state’s lottery commission worked with Penn National Gaming to move up the opening date, said Penn General Manager Himbert Sinopoli.

Maryland’s slow-to-move slots program has frustrated the state since fall 2008, when residents voted to legalize 15,000 slots at five locations. None of the sites has opened, and Maryland’s lottery agency has been unable to secure bids at two sites.
