P.G. students to protest transportation budget cuts

High school students in Prince George’s County are planning to protest proposed school system cuts to transportation for special programs.

A budget approved by the school board calls for plugging a $155 million budget gap next year by eliminating 1,300 jobs and cutting programs, like transportation for specialty programs and after-school activities.

Students from Suitland High School’s Visual and Performing Arts Center are gathering for a “Meet Me At The Bus Stop” rally at 6 a.m. Friday in front of the school.

Some plan to take public transportation to school that morning and document their ride with cell-phone cameras “to show first-hand what it will take to get to school without… school buses,” according to a news release.
