The Johns Hopkins University is building a $30 million expansion to the library on its Homewood campus in honor of its departing president, Dr. William Brody, and his wife, Wendy.
The Brody Learning Commons will be the first project on the campus to pursue the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification as a green building.
Brody has been president at Hopkins for more than 12 years but is leaving to head the Salk Institute in La Jolla, Calif.
The existing, 184,000-square-foot library overlooking North Charles Street was built in 1964. The 42,000-square-foot expansion should be completed by 2012.
