Julián Castro and Joe Biden sparred over immigration at Wednesday’s second Democratic debate, with Castro telling Biden to “have some guts on this issue.”
“If you cross the border illegally, you should be able to be sent back. It’s a crime,” Biden said.
“It looks like one of us has learned the lessons of the past and one of us hasn’t,” Castro said. “What we need are politicians who actually have some guts on this issue,” Castro, the former secretary of Housing and Urban Development, told Biden.
“I have guts enough to say his plan doesn’t make sense,” the former vice president responded.
Biden said immigrants “should have to get in line” if they are not seeking asylum in the U.S. when they cross the border illegally.
