President Trump urged Virginia voters on Monday to support Republican Ed Gillespie on the eve of Tuesday’s election that will determine which party holds the governor’s seat and said Virginia’s economy would improve under Gillespie’s leadership.
“The state of Virginia economy, under Democrat rule, has been terrible. If you vote Ed Gillespie tomorrow, it will come roaring back!” Trump tweeted.

Gillespie is facing off against Democratic Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam in Tuesday’s election.
Recent polls show Northam leading Gillespie, while a poll from Roanoke College released Friday have the two candidates deadlocked.
The president was in Japan on Monday, the first stop on his 13-day trip to Asia, and will soon depart for South Korea, where he will meet with South Korean President Moon Jae-in. The two are expected to discuss North Korea’s nuclear and missile tests.
“Getting ready to leave for South Korea and meetings with President Moon, a fine gentleman. We will figure it all out!” Trump said in a second tweet.
