“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert reacted to House Republicans passing a bill in the House that would partially repeal and replace Obamacare, using football metaphors.
He started off this part of his show referring to a tweet in which a reporter said she ran into White House chief of staff Reince Priebus in the Republican cloakroom.
Tonight: The metaphors the GOP used to describe their health care 'win' make even less sense than the health care plan itself. #LSSC pic.twitter.com/QWgsGduLq5— The Late Show (@colbertlateshow) May 5, 2017
“The president stepped up and helped punt the ball into the end zone,” Priebus was quoted as saying. Colbert jumped on the quote, which he noted would not be an advantageous move for the kicking football team.
.@Reince exiting gop cloakroom tells me: “The president stepped up and helped punt the ball into the end zone.”

“Accurate because it gets you zero points and gives your opponent good field position,” Colbert teased.
He then posited that a “more accurate football metaphor might have been the GOP just kicked America in the balls.”
What Colbert didn’t mention was that the reporter, Molly Hooper of the Hill, later tweeted that Priebues said “punch” not “punt,” after re-listening to the audio of the quote.
Correct @reince quote: “The president stepped up and helped PUNCH the ball into the end zone.”
