Accused Metro bomb plotter to remain in custody

Farooque Ahmed, the Ashburn man accused of plotting to bomb Metro stations in Virginia, will remain in custody pending further court proceedings.

In a brief appearance in federal court in Alexandria on Friday afternoon, Ahmed did not contest his detention. He was in court but did not speak.

Ahmed, 34, was arrested Wednesday. Prosecutors say he conducted surveillance and recorded videos at Metro stations for government agents posing as al Qaeda operatives. He is also accused of suggesting ways to cause the most casaulties in the attacks.

Ahmed had also obtained firearms and was training to conduct jihad, according to court records unsealed Thursday.

No further hearings have been scheduled in the case.
