Trump talked ‘extensively’ with Republican lawmakers over weekend about healthcare bill

President Trump spoke “extensively” with Republican lawmakers about the Senate healthcare bill over the weekend, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Monday.

“I can tell you, as I mentioned, that the president talked extensively with several Republican members over the weekend, and he felt very positive about those discussions, but they’re ongoing,” Spicer said during an off-camera briefing.

He said the president spoke with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito and Wisconsin Rep. Ron Johnson.

The Senate’s bill was released last week. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would like for senators to vote on it this week before the Fourth of July holiday, but it’s unclear whether enough conservative senators, who have expressed concerns that it doesn’t go far enough, will ultimately support the legislation.
