WATCH: Tense video shows arrest of El Chapo’s son

Tense video released by authorities shows the Mexican military bursting into a house to make the arrest of the son of “El Chapo.”

“What could have become a scene of war and the shedding of innocent blood was resolved in favor of a return to peace and protecting the population,” Security Minister Alfonso Durazo said in a news conference Wednesday.

Ovidio Guzmán, the son of the infamous drug lord, was arrested earlier this month, but Mexican authorities did not release headcam video of it until Wednesday.

The video shows Mexican soldiers attempting to breach a building before Guzmán eventually comes out in a baseball cap.

Police tell a woman to “stay calm” as she tries to keep authorities from making the arrest.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was also at the briefing Wednesday to discuss the video.

Guzmán was eventually released by police in order to end retaliatory violence by his drug cartel in response.

“The capture of one criminal cannot be worth more than the lives of people,” Obrador said. “This decision was made to protect citizens … you cannot fight fire with fire.”
