Kid Rock announcement could be a new restaurant in Detroit, not Senate run

Kid Rock’s potential run for the U.S. Senate might just be a stunt for his new restaurants.

According to Crain’s Detroit Business, Rock filed two trademarks in May for “Kid Rock’s Made in Detroit Bar & Grill,” which are expected to open in Little Caesar’s Arena in downtown Detroit. The arena will open as the home of the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings for the 2017-18 season.

On Wednesday, Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, tweeted out a mock lawn sign reading “Kid Rock for Senate,” and a link to kidrockforsenate.com. The website leads to a picture of Ritchie sitting in a chair with the phrase “Are You Scared?” written underneath it.

Ritchie, who visited President Trump in the White House back in April with Sarah Palin and Ted Nugent, is considering a run against sitting incumbent Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich. Stabenow has been a senator since 2000.

“Stay tuned, I will have a major announcement in the near future – Kid Rock,” Ritchie tweeted on Wednesday.

Ritchie hit back at press reports Thursday that this latest foray into politics was for publicity.

“Once again the press is wrong,” he tweeted, with a link to a statement on kidrock.com. “It’s not a hoax, it’s a strategy and marketing 101! No plans for an album or anything else that has been the usual norm in the music business OR politics.”
