Giant Food is rebutting allegations made by the Teamsters union workers that the grocer is outsourcing Maryland jobs to Pennsylvania.
The decision has not been made on whether to move jobs out of Maryland, Giant says. Rather, it is “conducting a comprehensive business review, which includes exploring all of the company’s options.” Furthermore, the statement, says, Teamsters union representatives agreed with the transfer of the operations when C&S Wholesale Grocers acquired Giant’s dry grocery business in Jessup.
“As part of this agreement, the future operations of the dry warehouse are in the hands of C&S and IBT 730, not Giant,” the grocer’s statement says. “Although the Teamsters made this agreement, they now are protesting the fact that they must negotiate with C&S regarding the future dry warehouse operations.”
