‘Nobody wants Harris’: DeSantis says Biden nominated vice president ‘as insurance’ against 25th Amendment

Barreling toward an expected Election Day victory, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis offered a preview of a possible presidential rivalry in 2024 as he squared off against President Joe Biden.

At a campaign stop in Sarasota County on Sunday, DeSantis said Vice President Kamala Harris was Biden’s “insurance” policy against being removed from office.

“She’s the best insurance for him for the 25th Amendment or impeachment you could ever really have,” DeSantis said. “No matter how bad Biden does, nobody wants Harris. … He did it to protect himself.”

DESANTIS DRAWS 2024 SUPPORT FROM GOP MEGA-DONOR KEN GRIFFIN

The governor’s swipe comes as Republican megadonors eye a presidential run for DeSantis in 2024 and Biden faces growing skepticism over his plans. A bad night for Democrats on Tuesday could spur calls for Biden to step aside.

Biden has said he intends to run for reelection with Harris at his side. Yet, at 79 years old, the president faces increasing skepticism over the prospect as some Democrats call for a new generation of leadership.

Amid his attempts to make the case that he is best positioned to lead the party, Biden has sparred with Republicans, including DeSantis, seeking to elevate the governor at times. He described DeSantis as “Donald Trump incarnate” while stumping last week for his challenger, Charlie Crist.

If Biden chooses not to run, Harris remains a front-runner for the Democratic nomination despite low approval ratings. After nearly two years in office, the vice president benefits from national name recognition and continues to hold strong support with black voters.

DeSantis is poised to win reelection and has not ruled out a presidential bid next cycle, even if it means challenging Trump.
