Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez praised tech entrepreneur Andrew Yang after he ended his presidential bid.
The New York Democrat tweeted support for Yang on Tuesday after he announced his exit from the Democratic presidential primary. The businessman cut short his campaign in front of a crowd of supporters as disappointing results from New Hampshire’s primary began rolling in early Tuesday night.
“You ran a great race, @AndrewYang. Your campaign focused on the future, and looked like you were having a lot of fun doing it. Thank you for bringing up ideas like UBI and opening a discourse on how we better value undervalued work like caregiving,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

Yang performed poorly in the Iowa caucuses, the first contest in the primary. He pulled in 1% of state delegate equivalents and needed a strong showing in New Hampshire to build support heading closer to Super Tuesday and to keep open a path to victory.
“You know, I’m the math guy. It is clear tonight, from the numbers, we will not win this race,” Yang said. He added that he did not want people putting money into a campaign that was destined to lose.
