The D.C. City Council’s committee of the whole approved Kaya Henderson as the permanent chancellor of D.C. Public Schools on Tuesday morning.
It wasn’t a shocking move, as Mayor Vincent Gray’s pick sailed through a council hearing last week where seven council members pledged to approve her.
Final approval is slated for later on Tuesday.
“I am impressed with Ms. Henderson’s intellect and abilities,” Chairman Kwame Brown said. “I commend her intense focus on improving the quality of teachers at every D.C. school.”
Ward 3 Councilwoman Mary Cheh said Henderson has “vision.”
“Chancellor Henderson is the right person to carry forward our progress and reform of our school system,” Cheh said.
