White House press secretary Jen Psaki praised the “courage” of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry for speaking out about mental health after their prime-time interview with Oprah Winfrey.
But she declined to say whether the president and his wife, who is a friend of Harry’s, watched the bombshell TV appearance.
The couple used their first major TV interview since moving to California to accuse other members of the British royal family of racism, and the Duchess of Sussex said she had contemplated suicide.
Psaki was asked whether President Biden and the first lady had any reaction.

“Meghan Markle is a private citizen, and so is Harry,” said Psaki during her Monday briefing. “At this point, for anyone to come forward and speak about their own struggles with mental health and tell their own personal story, that takes courage and that’s certainly something the president believes.”
“Let me just reiterate that we have a strong and abiding relationship with the British people and a special partnership with the government of the United Kingdom on a range of issues, and that will continue.”
However, Harry is known to have a warm relationship with first lady Jill Biden. They met nine years ago at a reception in Washington for injured military personnel, and she flew to the U.K. in 2014 to support his inaugural Invictus Games for wounded servicemen and women.
When he brought the games to Orlando, Florida, in 2016, she joined him to watch wheelchair basketball.

Biden said at the time: “Everywhere Prince Harry went, he had this blonde woman on his arm. The vice president’s wife! I’m a little worried here, you know what I mean?”
