First lady Melania Trump will urge the spouses of world leaders to ensure their countries are protecting its most vulnerable populations, children and young adults, from bullying, according to excerpts of a speech she will give during a luncheon at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations Wednesday afternoon.
“When we join together as parents caring for children, whether they live in our own families, across the street, across the nation, or across the globe, we claim our responsibility to the next generation to ensure they are prepared to accept the torch of leadership for the world of tomorrow,” Trump will tell attendees, according to her office. “No child should ever feel hungry, stalked, frightened, terrorized, bullied, isolated or afraid, with nowhere to turn.”
Trump, whose focus as first lady is countering bullying, will point out that those most often victimized are the “weakest, most innocent, and vulnerable among us, our children.”
“If we look at the present state of children in any society, we will see the future that our world can expect tomorrow,” Trump will add. “We need to step up, come together, and ensure that our children’s future is bright.”
Trump has visited children’s hospitals during President Trump’s foreign trips and made helping children a priority in her role.
However, former secretary of state and former first lady Hillary Clinton criticized Trump on Tuesday for not doing enough on Ivanka Trump’s issue of focus during her husband’s first term in office.
“No, no, and, look, I don’t think anybody is doing enough on cyberbullying,” Clinton said when media outlet Mic asked if Trump was making strides to fight bullying.
Last Friday, Trump visited an after-school program at Joint Base Andrews Youth Center.
