James Comey vows on Twitter to ‘get back to writing’

Former FBI Director James Comey said Monday that he plans to start writing more and will share his thoughts on his social media account.

“Goodbye Iowa. On the road home. Gotta get back to writing. Will try to tweet in useful ways,” he tweeted mid-Monday, using his alias Reinhold Niebuhr.

Niebuhr was an American theologian who wrote the Serenity Prayer. Comey’s friend Benjamin Wittes of the Brookings Institute confirmed Monday that the account does in fact belong to the former FBI director.

Through the alias account, Comey tweeted last Friday that he was spending the weekend in Iowa, which prompted some to speculate whether he was in the first caucus state making moves ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Comey has recently traveled to Gettysburg, Penn., and West Point.

President Trump fired Comey in May, indirectly leading to the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel for the Russia investigation.
