MSNBC’s Joy Reid apologizes for new wave of controversial blog posts

MSNBC host Joy Reid apologized Friday for the recent wave of old blog posts that resurfaced this week, including one in which she compared Sen. John McCain to the Virginia Tech shooter, and others that pushed a 9/11 conspiracy theory and promoted anti-Semitic policies.

And while she has blamed hackers for other controversial posts that were on her site, Reid apologized for the current wave, and didn’t argue that anyone else was responsible.

“I’m sorry for the collateral damage and pain this is causing individuals and communities caught in the crossfire,” Reid said, according to a statement from her that was posted on Twitter.

Reid said she has the “highest respect” for McCain and she’s offered her apologies to Meghan McCain, the senator’s daughter and “The View” co-host, who called Reid’s post “beyond disgusting and disgraceful.”

After explaining her cultural background and “evolution” on a number of issues, she made clear her stance on 9/11 and Israel’s sovereignty.

“There is no question in my mind that Al Qaeda perpetrated the 9/11 attacks or about Israel’s right to its sovereignty,” she wrote. “I believe the totality of my work attests to my ideals and I continue to grow every day.”
