Melania Trump likely to champion causes on ‘well-being of children’

Melania Trump is expected to announce the causes she will champion as first lady “in the coming weeks.”

“The First Lady continues to be thoughtful about her initiatives, and we look forward to announcing something in the coming weeks,” Trump’s spokesperson Stephanie Grisham told RealClearPolitics.

“It is safe to say that Mrs. Trump is very focused on the health and well-being of children,” Grisham added.

Trump has made visits to children’s hospitals a staple of her trips abroad with the president.

In May, Trump spoke Italian with children during her visit to Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome. A day later, she posed for selfies and played games with children at Queen Fabiola Children’s Hospital in Brussels, Belgium.

She spoke French with children at a Paris hospital during her trip to France in July.

The first lady has also made visits to hospitals in the U.S.

She most recently requested to attend the president’s meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price about the opioid crisis.

“Opioid abuse is an escalating health crisis affecting countless families across the country. The well-being of children is a priority for the first lady, and this epidemic affects them in many different ways so she requested to attend today’s briefing,” Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for the first lady, told the Washington Examiner last Tuesday.

During the presidential campaign, Trump announced she wanted to combat cyberbullying but has said very little about the issue since then.
