Trump blasts California Gov. Jerry ‘Moonbeam’ Brown in Twitter tear

Updated at 6:44 p.m.

President Trump mocked California Gov. Jerry Brown in a salvo of tweets Saturday morning, calling him “Moonbeam” and condemning the Democrat for pardoning five immigrants convicted of crimes and slated for deportation.

“Governor Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown pardoned 5 criminal illegal aliens whose crimes include (1) Kidnapping and Robbery (2) Badly beating wife and threatening a crime with intent to terrorize (3) Dealing drugs. Is this really what the great people of California want?” Trump tweeted, tagging Fox News.

“Moonbeam” was a nickname given to Brown in the 1970s by Chicago columnist Mike Royko, chiding him for such ideas as launching a satellite that would be used to provide California with emergency communications abilities.

Trump’s mention of Brown issuing pardons comes one day after the governor pardoned five immigrants who were to be deported in a pre-Easter gesture.

Trump also knocked the New York Times, Amazon and the Washington Post, the last of which is owned by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

“While we are on the subject, it is reported that the U.S. Post Office will lose $1.50 on average for each package it delivers for Amazon. That amounts to Billions of Dollars. The Failing N.Y. Times reports that “the size of the company’s lobbying staff has ballooned,” and that … does not include the Fake Washington Post, which is used as a ‘lobbyist’ and should so REGISTER. If the P.O. ‘increased its parcel rates, Amazon’s shipping costs would rise by $2.6 Billion.’ This Post Office scam must stop. Amazon must pay real costs (and taxes) now!” Trump said.

Last week Axios reported that Trump wants to use antitrust laws to go after Amazon, and changing its tax treatment. He later said in a tweet that he has long griped about Amazon, noting its impact on the U.S. Postal Service and retailers.
