At the end of a week of having past incendiary comments unearthed and calls for her removal from House committees or Congress, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene issued a statement to what she called the “mob.”
“I will never back down. I will never give up,” the Georgia Republican said in a statement on Friday.
Greene said her reelection campaign has received $1.6 million in small donations from all 50 states “since launching your smear campaign attacks on me.”
It was revealed this week that her Facebook page “liked” a 2019 social media post saying that “a bullet to the head” would be a “quicker” way to remove House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from office.
Another resurfaced video showed her confronting David Hogg, a student who survived the Parkland shooting, when he was advocating for gun reform on Capitol Hill.
The end of the week resulted in a back-and-forth between Greene and Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri, a far-left Democrat who got her political start as a Black Lives Matter organizer, who accused Greene of “berating” her and caused her to move office spaces in the Capitol. Greene later released video of the confrontation, arguing that it was Bush who first taunted Greene by telling her to put a mask on.
The revelations and resurfaced accusations put pressure on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to take stronger action against Greene.
Pelosi criticized McCarthy for placing her on committees.
“What I’m concerned about is the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives was willing to overlook and ignore those statements,” Pelosi told reporters Thursday, calling them out for “assigning her to the education committee when she has mocked the killing of little children at Sandy Hook Elementary School.”
When asked about Greene, White House press secretary Jen Psaki has refused to speak her name.
Multiple Democrats have signed on to resolutions calling for stronger measures against her, including expulsion from Congress.
“I take all of these slings and arrows gladly for you. I take them for our America First movement so that we can save our country and stop socialism. I knew this day would come, it was only a question of when,” Greene said.
