Crime victim organization sees increase in area crime

The Washington Examiner reported Tuesday that there’s been a 17 percent increase in homicides in the first three months of 2011.

One area organization that caters to victims and the family of victims of crime said they’re seeing the effects of that: “It’s clear that the number of victims that we are serving that are homicide-related has increased significantly,” said Russell Butler, the executive director of the Maryland Crime Victims’ Resource Center.

Butler said survivors of homicide victims who need assistance with the criminal justice system, counseling, criminal injuries compensation, referrals, or other issues can contact: Maryland Crime Victims’ Resource Center at 301-952-0063 or www.mdcrimevictims.org. or the District of Columbia Crime Victims’ Resource Center on 202-531-3346 or www.dccrimevictims.org.
