President Joe Biden will be visiting Idaho and California on Monday to survey damage caused by intense wildfires — and to promote his $3.5 trillion spending plan.
Biden’s visit will involve meeting with federal and state fire officials at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho, as well as a visit to California, where he will survey wildfire damage in the state. The visits are intended to help earn support for his spending plan.

Biden is expected to pitch the spending plan as a way to fight wildfires in the West caused by climate change — similar to his visits to New York and New Jersey after Hurricane Ida, according to Associated Press.
“Folks, the evidence is clear: Climate change poses an existential threat to our lives, to our economy,” Biden said during the New York visit. “And the threat is here. It’s not going to get any better. The question: Can it get worse? We can stop it from getting worse.”
Biden intends to showcase some of his recent actions taken to fight the wildfires in the West. The Biden administration activated the Defense Production Act in early August to boost supplies for NewView Oklahoma, the U.S. Forest Service’s primary fire hose supplier. The activation helped the nonprofit organization produce and ship 415 miles of fire hoses, the outlet reported.
Biden’s visit to California will also involve a visit to Long Beach, where he will attend an election-eve event to show his support for Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, who faces a recall vote on Tuesday.
