Conn. family killed in Nigerian Air crash

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Neighbors of a Connecticut family killed in an airline crash in Nigeria say they’re having trouble coming to terms with the tragedy.

Sunday’s crash killed Maimuna Anyene (may-MOON’-ah ahn-YEN’-ay), her husband, Onyeke, and their four children, including 1-year-old twins, a 5-month-old and a 3-year-old. The family lived in West Hartford.

Several news reports said the family was returning from a wedding.

Neighbors said Tuesday they are devastated and described the Anyenes as a friendly family whose children happily played with others in the neighborhood. A memorial of stuffed animals, flowers and candles lies in front of the family’s home.

Maimuna Anyene was a human relations manager at Hartford-based United Technologies Corp. Company officials say employees are saddened by the deaths, and Maimuna Anyene will be deeply missed.
