The 44th president of United States fulfilled his civic duty on Wednesday as he reported for jury duty in Chicago.
Former President Barack Obama was spotted taking his time while entering the Daley Center in Cook County Chicago, stopping to shake hands and sign books of other would-be jurors, according to videos posted to Twitter Wednesday.
Despite his high-profile status and Secret Service detail, Obama will be paid the same rate, $17.20 a day, as all other prospective jurors, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Obama reportedly left his home in the Kenwood, Chicago area just before 9:30 a.m. and headed to the courthouse. The former president’s motorcade entered a secure parking garage at the Daley Center about 10 a.m.
Obama was sent home after less than two hours, Chief Judge Evans said the panel he could have been on was no longer needed, according to CBS Chicago.

The news that Obama would be reporting for jury duty was announced by Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans to Cook County commissioners during an October meeting.
Former President George W. Bush also reported for jury duty in the summer of 2015 in Texas, posing for selfies with fellow potential jurors that made their way to social media.
