Chris Cuomo’s 14-year-old son was diagnosed with the coronavirus.
Cristina Cuomo, the wife of the CNN host, announced in a social media post that the couple’s son Mario tested positive for COVID-19, losing his sense of taste and smell, after both his parents contracted the illness.
“After 10 days of ups and downs, feeling good one-day and terrible the next, I am now working hard to get my son, Mario, through the virus. My heart hurts more than my head over his infection. This virus does not discriminate. While kids are more resilient, they can suffer same severity of symptoms,” she wrote in a post on Instagram on Wednesday.
“I’m applying a modified version of my remedies for his protocol with a focus on lots of vitamins. Since his sense of smell and taste have disappeared, I am feeding him healthy foods that I normally can’t get him to touch. I kept a diary of the past week including my remedies and things that I did to stay sane through it all,” she added.
On March 31, Chris Cuomo announced he tested positive for COVID-19 in a post on social media. “I have been exposed to people in recent days who have subsequently tested positive, and I had fever, chills, and shortness of breath,” Cuomo said at the time. “I am quarantined in my basement … I will do my shows from here.”
Approximately two weeks later, while interviewing his brother, Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the host of CNN’s Cuomo Prime Time revealed that his wife also tested positive for the coronavirus.
“It’s very rare for a family to be one and done. Cristina now has COVID. She is now positive. And it just breaks my heart. It is the one thing I was hoping wouldn’t happen, and now, it has,” Cuomo said.
Last week, Cuomo said they are feeling better. The couple also have two daughters.
Cuomo has faced media scrutiny for breaking quarantine while ill. During a radio appearance, Cuomo complained about a 65-year-old bicyclist who asked the cable news host why he was visiting property in East Hampton, New York, with his wife and children instead of social distancing. The bicyclist, who has simply been identified as “Dave,” filed a police report against Cuomo after the TV host referred to him as a “jackass, loser, fat-tire biker.”
“Here, you have a top CNN anchor who appears to have been ignoring the social distancing rules his network has been promoting and forcing on everyone else,” Fox News host Tucker Carlson said. “It seems like he wasn’t telling the truth about staying quarantined in his basement. But you can’t be too mean. His own video was humiliating enough.”
