A look at FedEx’s Express unit

FedEx Corp. is seeing a drop in demand for speedy shipments moved by air because more customers are opting to move goods slower to save money. The company plans to announce a massive cost reduction plan for its Express unit next month.

BUSINESS: Operates in 220 countries and territories, including every address in the United States

WORKFORCE: 146,000 employees worldwide

REVENUE: $26.5 billion in fiscal 2012

VOLUME: More than 3.5 million packages on an average day

FLEET: 660 aircraft and 45,000 vehicles

FACILITIES: 1,173 stations (659 U.S.; 514 outside U.S.) and 10 air express hubs
