Weather Channel meteorologist and field reporter Mike Seidel nearly got hit by a beach chair Saturday evening as he was outside in Biloxi, Miss., covering Hurricane Nate as it made landfall.
Video shows Seidel reporting live, amid 85 mph winds and the threat of “life-threatening” storm surge, when a beach chair can be seen flying into the shot from above and landing a few away from the reporter.
@mikeseidel you barely missed that flying chair from hitting you! @weatherchannel pic.twitter.com/rPuG8GzFdR— Tyler Barker (@WXTylerB) October 8, 2017
“Wow, you just had some furniture fly by,” a Weather Channel anchor said as Seidel points and acknowledges the chair before continuing on with his report.
Several meteorologists and weather scientists remarked on the video, including Eric Blake of the National Hurricane Center. He tweeted, “Whoa! That could have had deadly consequences.”

Hurricane Nate made landfall Saturday evening near the mouth of the Mississippi River in southeast Louisiana as a Category 1 storm. The storm has since weakened into a tropical depression as it quickly moves inland through Alabama and into Tennessee and Kentucky, but it is still dumping heavy rainfall according to the National Hurricane Center.
