Judge Neil Gorsuch shared the details of a private conversation he had with President Trump during Tuesday’s Senate hearing on Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination.
Earlier in Tuesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Gorsuch’s nomination, Gorsuch said Trump never asked the judge to commit to overturning Roe v. Wade and that he would have walked away had Trump done so. Facing questions from Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal in the evening, Gorsuch shared that he and Trump did talk about abortion and revealed other details of their conversation.
Trump told Gorsuch he was disappointed he lost Colorado in the 2016 election, Gorsuch said. “He said he thinks if he had a little more time he thinks he might’ve won,” Gorsuch said.
The judge said Trump talked about how abortion was a divisive issue on the campaign trail and split the electorate. Asked about what else Trump discussed, Gorsuch said he recalled that Trump “expressed concern that our country’s nuclear armaments are old.”
