Fortnite players invited to explore Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘I Have A Dream’ speech

Millions of Fortnite players can now experience Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech within the popular video game.

A partnership between Epic Games and Time Studios announced on Thursday allows players to explore a virtual version of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., set in 1963 when the civil rights speech was delivered. Players can listen to King’s remarks and offer “museum-inspired points of interest and quests where players will work together with others to complete various collaborative mini-games.”

“March Through Time,” billed as an “educational event,” will be available to explore online for one year.

“March Through Time” was inspired by “The March,” an exhibit at the DuSable Museum of African American History in Chicago produced by TIME and debuted in February 2020.

TIME Studios’ mission is to embrace innovative new formats to tell the world’s most impactful stories. We are thrilled to introduce our first-ever gaming experience and expand our groundbreaking The March project, which started as an immersive exhibit, into the global, educational event March Through Time in Fortnite Creative,” TIME Studios President Ian Orefice said in an online post.

Fortnite is a T-rated game wherein 100 players attempt to shoot and kill each other in the main gameplay. It has branched out to allow for creativity and exploring new areas built by players.

The game was used in May 2020 to showcase a trailer for the film Tenet and also hosted an Ariana Grande music concert in August 2021.
