NYC mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa says he was hit by cab

New York City mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa said he was hit by a cab on his way to a live radio interview Friday.

Sliwa, the GOP nominee in the race and Guardian Angels founder, was rushed to the Lenox Hill Hospital and under evaluation, but only after he did the show.

“I flew in the air about six feet, scurried up, started running in order to get here in time,” Sliwa said on the WCBS 880 broadcast. “I just want to relieve that cab driver cause I’m sure he probably thought that he had killed me. And it was my fault. He had nothing to do with this at all, as I was trying to beat the light and get to the other side before the changeover.”

Sliwa was hit near Rockefeller Center shortly before noon, according to his senior campaign adviser Rob Cole. Cole said Sliwa was taken to the Lenox Hill Hospital to treat arm and knee injuries from the accident, the Associated Press reported.

Sliwa jokingly assured on social media the taxi cab would recover.

Sliwa announced his run for mayor in March. He will face Democratic opponent Eric Adams, whom Sliwa has called a “classic flip-flopper who goes based on polling data,” next week.

Despite their differences, Adams wished Sliwa a speedy recovery, hoping to see his opponent “back out on the trail this weekend.”

Adams leads Sliwa 61% to 25% among likely voters, with 14% undecided, according to Emerson College Polling.
