Second mistress allegation rocks Cal Cunningham campaign

Days after admitting he exchanged sexual messages with a woman who is not his wife, North Carolina Democratic Senate candidate Cal Cunningham must now contend with a new allegation that he is involved with a second woman who is not his wife.

National File reported Tuesday that North Carolina attorney Erin Brinkman stated on Facebook that her friend has also been involved in a relationship with Cunningham, a married father of two children, since 2012.

Brinkman stated on Facebook that her friend was “devastated” when she discovered this week that Cunningham was also in a relationship with another woman, Los Angeles public relations executive Arlene Guzman Todd, the wife of an Army combat veteran.

Brinkman is a Harvard-educated criminal justice attorney who previously worked on Cunningham’s failed 2010 Senate bid.

She wrote on Facebook: “He’s been having an affair with a good friend of mine since 2012. Not the woman mentioned in the story. Needless to say, my friend was devastated. But my feeling is, if they’ll cheat WITH you, they’ll cheat ON you!”

The Washington Examiner reached out to the Cunningham campaign to confirm whether Brinkman’s claim is true.

Cunningham, who is challenging Republican Sen. Thom Tillis this cycle, apologized on Saturday after the sexually explicit text messages came to light. He made clear he had no plans to exit the race, and Tillis, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 several days ago, is lagging behind Cunningham by 6 points, according to the RealClearPolitics average.

However, Cunningham pulled all of his Facebook campaign advertising, including his online fundraising ads on the platform. Additionally, he pulled out of a town hall on Monday.

A new poll shows the sexting scandal may be hurting the North Carolina Democrat as Tillis has moved up 3 points and edged ahead by 1 percentage point.
