The Most Rev. Michael Curry, who is from Chicago, delivered a passionate speech at Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle’s wedding Saturday at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
Curry, who is the first African-American to serve as presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, spoke of the power of love and at one point quoted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., saying, “We must discover the power of love, the redemptive power of love. And when we do that, we will be able to make of this old world a new world. Love is the only way.”
Bernice King, the daughter of the late civil rights leader, appeared happy to hear her father quoted during the speech.
Dear Family: It’s okay to watch and be moved by the #RoyalWedding. It doesn’t make you insensitive or less caring about the inhumanity in the world. It doesn’t mean you’ve forgotten history. Find moments of joy. We need them to continue the work.
