Police arrest 14-year-old suspected of kicking man in the head during George Floyd protests

Police in Portland, Oregon, arrested a 14-year-old male suspect on Thursday on suspicion of kicking a man in the head during a protest over the death of George Floyd late last month.

It’s unclear what led to the confrontation on Saturday, but video shows a man being chased and pushed to the ground by protesters. The man was lying motionless, face-down on the ground, when someone came by and kicked him in the head, then ran away.

One person shouted, “Knocked his mother f—ing ass out!” Another said, “Black lives matter, you f—–!”

Police said detectives detained the teenage suspect on Thursday. He was charged with second-degree assault and taken to a juvenile detention center.

“Various media platforms have falsely rumored the victim has passed away,” police said in a statement. “The male victim sustained serious injuries but is not deceased.”

Police encouraged the public to contact Detective Jeff Sharp at [email protected] or 503-823-9773 if anyone has any information on the attack.
