DNC chair: Ryan, McConnell no different than Trump

The Democratic National Committee pressed the message Wednesday that there is no real difference between Donald Trump and many of his Republican detractors.

“They’ve made their bed and now their lying in it,” DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said of Trump’s status as the presumptive GOP nominee while talking to the reporters on a press call Wednesday afternoon.

While the call was intended to discuss the current “state of the race,” the party chairwoman focused most of her attention on Thursday’s meeting between House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Trump. Wasserman Schultz claimed that the distress among Republican Party leaders is now “palpable” and that the business mogul’s nomination ensures “that his party’s problems won’t be limited to convention chaos.”

After Trump became the presumptive GOP nominee last week, McConnell offered a tepid endorsement, stating that he had “committed” to supporting the Republican nominee and would follow through with that promise. In contrast, Ryan said that he is “just not ready” to support Trump yet. Republicans have been split on how to deal with the likelihood that Trump will be their nominee for president.

“This Trump, Ryan, McConnell meeting matters,” Wasserman Schultz stated. “Despite their disagreements Trump doesn’t look that different from Ryan or McConnell when you look under the hood.”
