Hillary Clinton doesn’t rule out another run for office

Hillary Clinton was called out on Thursday for not making a definitive refusal of the idea that she might run for political office again one day.

During an appearance at the eighth annual Women in the World Summit in New York City, Clinton was asked by the New York Times’ Nicholas Kristof about whether she would consider running for any type of office, whether it be mayor or executive director of UNICEF.

Clinton’s initial response was to tap her chest where her heart is a few times along with a nervous laugh.

“The short answer is I am really focused on you know, just doing some things that I think I can help make a difference with, like the supporting of young people and getting more women into politics,” she said. “And I very much want to help Democrats take back the Congress,” she added to applause.

Clinton then said: “I have no plans at all other than to know other than to find some interesting things to do, trying to support other people to pursue their interests, spend time with my grandchildren which is a great joy. So, I’m not making any plans to do anything.”

Kristoff then chimed in, saying that her response didn’t “sound like a very definitive refusal.”

“You know, I am looking at doing interesting things. I don’t think that will include ever running for office again. As interesting as I find that to be because I think you can have a big influence,” Clinton said, before listing a number of ways one could make a difference outside of politics.
