Rudy Giuliani said he is being framed by federal authorities who are suffering from “Trump derangement syndrome” after his home and office were raided last week.
The onetime personal lawyer to former President Donald Trump has denied any wrongdoing after FBI agents raided properties belonging to the former New York City mayor on Wednesday, seizing electronic devices as part of an investigation into his business dealings.
“They are beyond the ability to control their rational thinking or their decency, and they have a serious, serious ethical issue, driven by Trump derangement syndrome,” Giuliani told Fox News of the investigators.
“They are trying to frame me,” he continued. “They are trying to find something they can make into a crime, some technical violation, some mistake I made.”

Giuliani is the former United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, the same office that is actively investigating him. The former president’s lawyer said a warrant showed that he is suspected of violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which mandates that U.S. authorities make “public disclosures” if engaging in “political activities” with foreign authorities.
“They showed me a warrant that sought the electronics in my apartment and purported to be about an alleged violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, FARA, for failure to file as a foreign agent on behalf of an unnamed Ukrainian official,” he said, adding that he was “shocked” and didn’t partake in this alleged offense.
“I know the criminal law, and I do not violate it,” he continued.
Giuliani has been eyed by federal authorities on whether he illegally lobbied the previous administration in 2019 on behalf of Ukrainian officials and oligarchs while searching for damaging information on Trump’s political rivals, including President Joe Biden, then the leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Robert Costello, Giuliani’s attorney, said that “the warrant sought communications between Mr. Giuliani and individuals including John Solomon, a columnist who was in communication with Mr. Giuliani about his effort to push for investigations of Joe Biden in Ukraine.” Giuliani’s lawyer called the search “legal thuggery” at the time.
“The Biden Department of Justice has completely ignored clear evidence (which the FBI has had for over a year) in texts and emails on Hunter Biden’s hard drive,” Costello said in a lengthy statement. “Instead, the Justice Department decided it was a higher priority to serve (at dawn) search warrants for electronics at the home and law office of former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.”
The statement added: “The search warrants involve only one indication of an alleged incident of failure to register as a foreign agent. Mayor Giuliani has not only denied this allegation, but offered twice in the past two years through his attorney Bob Costello to Democrats that it is entirely untrue. Twice the offer was rejected by the SDNY.”
Andrew Giuliani, the son of Rudy Giuliani who is considering a run for New York governor, on Wednesday blamed the “politicization of the Justice Department” for the raid on his father’s properties.

“I am disturbed by what happened here today, by the continued politicization of the Justice Department,” he told reporters in New York. “This is disgusting. This is absolutely absurd, and it’s the continued politicization of the Justice Department that we have seen. It has to stop. If this can happen to the former president’s lawyer, this can happen to any American.”
