Nancy Pelosi: ‘I will run for speaker’ when Democrats take House in 2018 midterms

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., stated her belief that Democrats will regain control of the House after the 2018 midterms and announced her intent to run for speaker of the House.

“We will win. I will run for speaker. I feel confident about it. And my members do, too,” Pelosi told the Boston Globe.

Pelosi also stressed that her job as the most senior female Democrat in Congress is even more critical after Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election. It is important, she said, that the presidency and leadership positions in both chambers of Congress not all be held by men.

“It’s important that it not be five white guys at the table, no offense,” Pelosi said. “I have no intention of walking away from that table.”

Pelosi, who has represented constituents in California for more than 30 years, was the first woman to serve as speaker of the House. She served as speaker from 2007 to 2011.
