In the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Tech last week, the Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland is advising residents to be cautious when solicited by charities or outreach groups for donations.
The BBB warns residents to be wary of groups that plead heavily on emotional issues, use excessive pressure for on-the-spot donations or ask for credit-card numbers over the phone.
For those looking to donate, Virginia Tech has set up a Web site for donations. It is www.vt.edu/tragedy/memorial_fund.php
