The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project has won two national awards.
The 2006 Globe Award from the Transportation Development Foundation of the American Road and Transportation Builders Association has been given to the project’s Fish Passage Program.
The award was established in 1998 to honor private and public-sector companies that do an outstanding job protecting or enhancing the natural environment within transportation projects, according to the ARTBA-TDF Web site.
As part of the bridge project, workers removed 23 blockages to local waterways, such as Sligo Creek and the northwest branch of the Anacostia, to allow migratory fish back into 17 miles of area rivers to spawn, officials said.
The Construction Management Association of American is honoring Jim Ruddell, the bridge project’s construction manager since 2000, with the 2006 Person of the Year Award. Ruddell oversees a 170-man construction and management team over the 7.5-mile project, said project officials.
