Running shoes delivered to Devin Nunes to ‘keep him comfortable while evading questions’

House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes may soon be committing what some consider the ultimate fashion faux pas: Athletic shoes with a suit.

The California congressman was gifted a pair of bright yellow New Balance sneakers on Wednesday by the Swamp Accountability Project, an organization committed to keeping the Russia investigation going and keeping other “ethically-challenged politicians” in check.

According to the Republican consultant Liz Mair, the shoes were delivered to Nunes, R-Calif., to help him run away from tough questions.

“He hasn’t been very courageous about taking questions, answering questions,” Mair said in a video posted to YouTube on Wednesday. “So we feel these are appropriate for Devin Nunes, and they’ll keep him comfortable while evading questions and enabling him to do it fast, which is very very important. Speed is of maximum importance here.”

Nunes, whose committee has investigated Russian interference in the 2016 election and is looking for potential anti-Trump bias in the Justice Department and FBI, has been accused by his Democratic counterparts of scheming to protect President Trump.

The group also sent a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan on Wednesday requesting Nunes be replaced by Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., as chair of the Intelligence Committee.

Earlier this month, Nunes was criticized after he left a hearing prior to Democrats being able to question him on his panel’s investigation. Nunes has also clashed with certain news outlets he has accused of working for the Democratic Party and this week CNN aired video of reporter Manu Raju attempting to ask the congressman questions about FISA documents as he walked through the Capitol.

The Swamp Accountability Project vowed to keep other “ethically-challenged politicians” who embody the swamp that the president pledged to drain, in check.
