Cracker Barrel accused of going ‘woke’ by introducing plant-based sausage

Cracker Barrel will be adding plant-based meat to its menu, leading to some customers having a serious beef with the change.

The chain, known for its Southern breakfast food that it serves all day, posted a photo on social media of a breakfast platter containing “Impossible Sausage Made From Plants,” prompting several people to respond with great disapproval. The plant-based meat comes from the brand Impossible, which creates meat, dairy, and fish imitation products from plants, according to its website. Several comments on its Facebook announcement decried the move as “woke.”

Cracker Barrel is “always exploring opportunities to expand how our guests experience breakfast and provide choices to satisfy every taste bud — whether people want to stick with traditional favorites like bacon and sausage or are hungry for a new, nutritious plant-based option like Impossible Sausage,” the restaurant chain told CNN Business.

On Thursday, Cracker Barrel posted another photo showing an Impossible sausage patty next to a pork sausage patty, with a handshake emoji between the two.

“Cracker Barrel: Where pork-based and plant-based sausage lovers can breakfast all day in harmony,” the social media post read.
