Trump: Nearly 4,000 have died in Chicago under Obama

Donald Trump would bring law and order back if elected president, he said in Monday’s debate, noting that nearly 4,000 people have been murdered in Chicago since President Obama assumed office.

“Secretary Clinton doesn’t want to use a couple of words,” Trump said in the first presidential following the conventions. “That’s law and order. We need law and order. If we don’t have it, we’re not going to have a country.

“We have a situation where we have our inner cities, African-Americans, Hispanics, are living in hell because it’s so dangerous. You walk down the street, you get shot,” Trump said. “In Chicago, they’ve had thousands of shootings. Thousands since Jan. 1, thousands of shootings, and you say, ‘What is this? A war torn country? What are we doing?’

“We have to stop the violence. We have to bring back law and order in a place like Chicago, where thousands of people have been killed, thousands over the last number of years,” Trump added. “In fact, almost 4,000 have been killed since Barack Obama became president. Almost 4,000 people in Chicago have been killed.”

Trump said illegal immigration was a component of the problem. “We have gangs roaming the street. And in many cases, they’re illegally here. And they have guns, and they shoot people,” Trump said.

“We have to be strong, and we have to be very vigilant,” he added. “We have to know what we’re doing. Right now, our police, in many cases are afraid to do anything. We have to protect our inner cities, because African-American communities are being decimated by crime.”

It was a theme Trump returned to several times throughout the evening. “The African-American community has been let down by our politicians. They talk good around election time, like right now, and after the election, they say, ‘I’ll see you later. I’ll see you in four years.’

“The African American community, the community within the inner cities, has been so badly treated They’ve been used and abused to get votes by Democratic politicians,” Trump said.
