‘Fierce leadership of our Commander-in-Chief’: Trump campaign fundraises off Baghdadi raid

President Trump’s reelection campaign touted the killing of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in its latest fundraising email.

On Sunday, Trump announced U.S. forces had raided a compound in northern Syria, killing Baghdadi and gathering information from his location.

Later in the day, the Trump campaign sent out an email to the president’s supporters commending him for his “fierce leadership.”

“It is a great day for the United States of America, and for the rest of the world,” the email read. “Under the fierce leadership of our Commander-in-Chief, the radical ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is dead. Terrorists should never sleep soundly knowing that the U.S. will completely destroy them.”

The email claimed Baghdadi’s death is evidence that Trump has delivered on his promise to keep America safe.

The campaign also took a swipe at CNN for cutting away from Trump’s announcement, writing, “Unfortunately, Fake News CNN hates President Trump more than they love our country.”

The email included a link to a poll through which voters could submit an approval rating for the president. After taking the poll, supporters were brought to a fundraising form to make a donation to the 2020 reelection campaign.

The Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee broke fundraising records in the third quarter of 2019. The duo raked in $125 million, bringing their yearly total to more than $308 million.
